My review of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-TimeThe Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Its a very different book and story from the ones that I have read so far. This story is written from the point of view of an autistic kid who is very intelligent but has problems understanding the feelings or emotions of other persons. Written in a very simple way , its very touching story . Sometimes in the middle it stretches a bit but overall nicely written , how an autistic kid goes on searching for the person who killed his neighbor's dog to what all he finds along the way to how we humans deals with our problems and how sometimes situations get the better of us and turn us into monsters. All told beautifully and simply in the story :) . I liked the novel , you should give it a try . Also one more thing I got to know about this novel is that its banned in some parts of the world. I wonder why because its really nice book :) .

The Book Thief Review :)

The Book ThiefThe Book Thief by Markus Zusak
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book got me hooked to it from the minute I started reading it . Written in a beautiful manner  , this story is being written from Death's perspective . This is the first story which I have read in which the author tells in the beginning only what's going to happen , so that there is no suspense but when I finished the book , I felt that even though I knew what was going to happen , when it actually happened in the story I was left spellbound by it . I know the value of words and what books can do to a person , there were certain parts in the story where I felt like I was the Book Thief , the feeling when I entered a library for the first time , when I saw so many books for the first time in one place and I was allowed to read them all , the way I touched those books , just feeling them , that  happiness , I could relate to it when the Book Thief went through it . The innocent childhood love , games and fights which Liesel and Rudy had , made me laugh and I went back to my childhood memories :). The caring father Hans and the different way of showing love by Rosa , the need to live by Max , it was an emotionally gripping story told in a somewhat humorous way . I think every book lover will be able to relate to some character or some part of the Book Thief . Awesome book , glad I came across this one :) . What do you book lovers' think ?

The Secret of the Nagas review

The Secret of the Nagas (Shiva Trilogy #2)The Secret of the Nagas by Amish Tripathi
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow!!! Spell-bounding book . I never thought it would be such a great novel , finished it in one day :D . I couldn't put it down , till I finished it :) . The story line was placed pretty nicely and there were some twists and turns that I didn't see coming but they were great . Also , the message that this book sent through Shiva's story is very relevant and applicable in today's world and in our lives. The fact that good and evil is within us and its our choice to choose from them is nicely told in this story . The fun aspect comes from totally opposite personalities of General of Meluha and Princess of Swasdeep. Really happy to find this trilogy , got everything in it . Can't wait to start the third book :).

The Immortals of Meluha review

The Immortals of Meluha (Shiva Trilogy #1)The Immortals of Meluha by Amish Tripathi
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

After a long time I read a book from an Indian author and I have to say I wasn't disappointed :) . This novel is written in very simple language and used Indian mythology which was pretty cool idea because I was able to connect with it very quickly :). Once I was able to forget the actual story of Lord Shiva and read it as it was written without trying to verify the facts it was great reading :).
This novel also provided some insights into how we can turn ourselves into destroyer of evil :) . It is pretty much relevant to what we all are facing currently in our world. A nicely written story of how a tribal person went on to become a Mahadev and fight against evil and humble enough to accept his mistakes :). Can't wait to start the second book in this series :).

The Oath of the Vayuputras

The Oath of the Vayuputras (Shiva Trilogy, #3)The Oath of the Vayuputras by Amish Tripathi
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Well I was just a bit disappointed with the final book in the Trilogy , it was not as good as the first two books , specially the second book which was awesome with pace and story line. The fact that a lot of space and time was given to describe a lot of structures in different places . I have to say at one point I got lost in the names of the places. Also the fact not much was told about the lab for Somras which was the main point in the last part was a bit of a downer . It was as if Amish just wanted the story to end a bit quickly by using the weapon . I don't mind reading a long book but the pace should be nice , it should not end too hastily . Also , I couldn't understand why Sati gave two different messages to her sons . I mean I couldn't understand this part . Sati was the hero of this book according to me  and the use of the weapon by Shiva to avenge her death showed his human side and love for his wife . Overall , a good trilogy , never thought something like this would come from an Indian author , no disrespect to Indian authors :) . I am glad I was surprised by this Trilogy :) :). Easy and simple style to writing and pretty easy to connect with today's world and our lives . As the author showed in the trilogy , Har Har MahaDv ( Each one is God ) :) :).

First Movie with Mom :)

I first saw a movie in a movie hall when I was in second year of college . It was a big thing for me then as it was my first time going to a movie hall and I had gone for the movie by lying to my warden . If I would have been caught , my parents would have been called and I can only imagine what might have happened to me had I been caught. I was excited and nervous at the same time. It was a great experience , also the movie was great :).

After that I have seen many movies at theaters but still my family had no clue about them. I never told them because they would have never allowed me to go . I used to think that they would say that its bad thing to go to movie theaters as people who go there are not good people. My dad is very conservative about such things but my mom is pretty cool :) .

I think of my mom as a superwoman. She does everything day in, day out without any complains!!! . She looks after the home , teaches kids in school . I mean she's working from the time she gets up till she sleeps. She's a school teacher . She teaches Hindi , India's official language in a public school. She's been teaching since last 22 years. She used to tell me that her lecturer in college took her class out for a movie on their last day in college. She said she last saw a movie 26 years ago.

I always used to think that when I'll be able to earn on my own I'll take her out for movies. Its been two years since I have been working and I didn't take her out for a movie thinking that she won't like today's movie as they would be a bit of shock for her now . Since the last movie she saw was way different then they are made now . However , I finally got an opportunity to take her out for a movie . We saw the movie with 2 of my friends and their mother . It was a great experience . I had already seen this movie and in between I would glance over to where my mom was sitting just to see if she was enjoying herself or not. When I saw the smile on her face while watching the movie , it was the most amazing feeling for me. She enjoyed certain songs too about which I was a bit apprehensive that she won't like them. She surprised me a bit. She made a new friend too :) .

While coming back , she told me that she was glad she came for the movie with me :) . I liked the fact that I could take her out for the movie and give her a break from her routine work and make her happy. She got so busy with taking care of our family that she forgot about herself and I am determined to make sure that she enjoys herself now. Its just the beginning of seeing movies and doing fun stuff with my mom :). Content is what we both were after that movie , a rare feeling in this fast faced world :) .

Life on bench :) :(

Life on bench is like walking on a tight rope hanging between two poles, one wrong move and you are gone. It can be really tough to be on bench sometimes and sometimes it may feel very good when you see people around you slogging at work and you don't have to worry about any work. But as I wrote before its like walking on a tight rope.

I have been sitting on bench for almost 4 months now even though I have worked on say 3 projects till now . Now don't get the impression that I was thrown out of these projects because I didn't work but it was becuase the projects went into production or were already in production when I went in those projects , so there was no work in them . It was more like getting to know about the products of the company , how things work in a corporate world and stuff like that. I did learn quite a bit about them too . Yet it was not the kind of work which I had imagined myself to be doing when I entered my company .

There have been so many days when I just come to the office and sit on my desk for 9 hours , staring at my PC , going from one website to another , wandering aimlessly till the time it comes for me to leave for home . It is really frustrating when one has to sit at one place and stare at the PC for so long :( :X .  My friends tell me that this is my honeymoon period in the company because when I'll get work I will not get any free time . May be they are correct but as a fresher I would like to work and apply my skills then wait for such a long time and do nothing . Its very tough to sit idle for me . Also there is too much of uncertanity when it comes to your future when you are on bench . One may get fired if there is no work :O .

The thing which is more frustrating is that when I have to stay late for work at office even when I am not in that project :X . You do the work and you don't get any recoginiton for that since you are not in the project :X , now that is very frustrating :X . Then when I go home I have to answer my parents' questions , " Did u get any project?  What do you do there if you have no work ? Blah blah.. " . Huh!! now that is the last thing I want to do when I  reach home , answering questions about my work :X .

I never thought that enjoying my honeymoon period with the company would be so tough :P .

The only thing which makes life on bench to be bearable is the salary which I get even without doing much work :P . Now who wouldn't like getting paid for doing very less work ? :P
